From
1991-2002, the band underwent numerous variations.
Their name was initially Abdomen of Hypnosis (a mutation of the
original, short-lived name Implement
of Prognosis). The line-up
saw a series of different members as well. The eternal drummer,
Scott Young,
was substituted by, among others, Dana Collins (formerly of
Seattles the Accused),
William Brandt (formerly of Tav
Falcos Panther Burns), and
Madison Lucas. Bass players
have included Dan Cearley and
John LaBriola. In
1996, Jim Nasi briefly added a
2nd rhythm guitar, in a rare
four-piece incarnation. And through it all, the group released a multitude of material, primarily through Jourgensens own D.U.
Records label. |

In 2000, Abdomen released their final CD "Center For Things You Cant Do Anything
About" with 10 new tunes, and performed throughout Colorado and California.
The band (at this point Mike Jourgensen [guitar, vocals, etc.]
, Elie
Kimura [bass] , and Tony Weissenberg
[drums] ), remained busy in this line-up from 1999-2002. Abdomen ceased to
exist in mid-2002. Mike Jourgensen released a solo album "Late At Night" in December of
2003 with 10 brand new tunes.

Compilation
Appearances:
l
Europe Endless (7"
EP, Ramco Records, St. Paul, MN 1993)
A bizarre compilation where 30 or so bands are all
mixed together at once, creating one great big chaotic song. Abdomen does
"Ghost Factory," but not so's you'd notice.
l The Horizon Center
(Cassette,
D.U. Records, 1993)
An early D.U. Records compilation. Abdomen does an
early cover version of the (Dutch hardcore masters) B.G.K. song "Soylent
Green." Abdomen later redid the song (to much greater effect) on their
all-cover song album, "Abdomenizer."
l
Noise Tent '99 Spring Sampler (CD,
D.U. Records, 1999)
Compilation of a dozen Denver bands who recorded at
Mike Jourgensen's studio, Noise Tent 6. Abdomen does two new songs, "Lately" and
"Unmet."
l In Formation - A Tribute to
Throbbing Gristle (CD,
ADR, San Francisco, CA 2000)
An all TG covers compilation. Abdomen does
"United." The CD released on ADR Records came in either
conventional packaging or a limited edition all-metal box. The album was re-released in 2001 by
Invisible Records.
l Noise Tent 2000 Spring Sampler (CD,
D.U. Records, 2000)
Compilation of 15 Colorado bands who recorded from
1999-2000 at Noise Tent 6 studio. Abdomen does "What Did You Do?,"
which re-appeared in a different mix on their CD "Center for Things You
Can't do Anything About."
l
Radio 1190, Local Shakedown
(2CD, Smooch Records, Boulder, CO
2000)
About 50 bands are on this college radio sampler.
Abdomen does "Phaser Song," which re-appeared in the same version on their CD
"Center for Things You Can't
do Anything About."
l Noise Tent 2002 Spring Sampler
(CD,
D.U. Records, 2002)
The last in the series is this 21-band collection, all recorded in
Mike's house (Noise Tent 6). Far out! Abdomen does a new tune
(their last),
"New Yesterday."
l Imposters - Warlock Pinchers
Tribute Album (CD,
Braceface, 2002)
A national assortment of bands who cover the
Boulder, CO band's favorites. Abdomen does "Curious George and the
Anti-Christ." And then they stopped...
l
Radio
1190, Local Shakedown Vol. 2
(2CD, Smooch Records, Boulder, CO
2004)
Abdomen was
incorrectly credited here for the song "Mystery To Me." This tune
was
actually performed by Mike Jourgensen, and was released (in a sonically
superior version) on his "Late At Night" CD. Oh, well!
Television Appearances:
l Video Ventures
(Cable TV Commercial)
Abdomen's "Tunnels" was
featured.
l Ned's Declassified School
Survival Guide
(Nickelodeon Cable TV)
Abdomen's "Situation Two" was
featured.
